Somatic Movement Education

Background

I am learning Somatic Movement Education from Body-Mind Centering, founded by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. It is a process of embodiment that calls each practitioner or teacher to respond to and follow the courses of nature. In this manner, the work itself is a natural process of continual evolvement.

To facilitate and support the unique and dynamic process of the moment, Body-Mind Centering offers principles and practical techniques, as well as language and theory based on authentic body experience. This provides a foundation based in natural and organic processes from which we can each grow - inward on how we relate to ourselves and outward as an expression of our unique self in relation to the world.

As we journey deep inside our own experience and out through our perceptions of the world, we become the subject, material and witness of our own research and evolvement. This enables us to live consciously in each moment beyond the conditioned identity and our habitual patterns of thinking, moving and perceiving.

The scope of this work has wide application, including movement form such as yoga, dance, martial arts, tai ji, qi gong, athletics and others.

Somatic Movement Education is beginner friendly and suitable for anyone open and curious about exploring and tapping into the wisdom of our body and mind.
